Upcoming Productions and Special Events

The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. Countless schools, community theaters, and professionals alike have enabled this timeless work to touch new generations of audiences and performers. But one may be familiar with the album or the film, and (somehow) unaware that the show is produced live frequently every year. One may also be unaware of special JCS-related events featuring stars of the original stage or film casts.

Want to experience the magic of JCS for yourself in a real live theater (or cinema)? Well, look no further! Now, thanks to this page, you will be able to track down performances at a venue near you, with links to buy tickets and learn more about each production (or event) where available. (Special thanks to Kim Rogers, Vice President of Amateur Licensing at The Musical Company, for her assistance overall.)

Our listings generally look like this:

  • Date: Name of Producer (Name of Venue), City, State/Province, Country (if applicable)

If the listing is bold, it means that you can click the link for further information and/or to purchase tickets. Support your local JCS, and keep the circle turning!

HOUSEKEEPING NOTE: You don’t see your production listed? Feel free to contact us via the link in the Nav.Bar above, but please note that we frequently update the listings; when a show’s over, it comes off our list, so if your production has already closed, it has no reason to be here. Thanks!

Africa

Hi there!

Are you from the continent of Africa and upset not to see your production of JCS listed? We are, too!

We'd love to include any productions of JCS happening in your area, but as of May 2019, the agency that handles its licensing, Dalro, doesn't even have an individual page for JCS on its website, much less a listing of forthcoming productions.

If you're presenting JCS anywhere in Africa and want to be included on this page, please do not hesitate to contact us with all relevant production details, and we'll put it up!

Special Events

This section was developed pretty much specifically for a screening tour of the 1973 film, which commenced with its 40th anniversary in 2013 and has continued into the present. Each evening includes a screening of a newly remastered digital print of JCS, a special appearance by original cast members, talk-backs/Q&A (in the past), a sing-along, and a costume contest for those with cosplay skills willing to emulate the look of the film or the era from whence it came. You will get up-close-and-personal, meet-and-greet face-time with the cast! Additionally, special autograph signing appearances — not specifically tied to a showing of the movie — by the film’s cast began to occur alongside the screening tour when it started, and have periodically returned during the course of the tour. When such events take place, they’ll be noted here as well.

The present leg of the tour has been announced on a “by request” basis which will occur during the winter 2019 – spring 2020 range. If fans want the film in their area (note: continental U.S. only due to licensing issues), hook up Ted’s promoter(s) with the contact info for the theater you have in mind, and they will take it from there! Dates (and ticket info) will be posted as more become known. Also, on a more specific note, assume that any other cast members listed next to a specific date are in addition to Ted’s appearance.

December 5-7: Little Art Theatre, Yellow Springs, OH
December 8: Cedar Lee Theatre, Cleveland Heights, OH
