Upcoming Productions and Special Events

The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. Countless schools, community theaters, and professionals alike have enabled this timeless work to touch new generations of audiences and performers. But one may be familiar with the album or the film, and (somehow) unaware that the show is produced live frequently every year. One may also be unaware of special JCS-related events featuring stars of the original stage or film casts.

Want to experience the magic of JCS for yourself in a real live theater (or cinema)? Well, look no further! Now, thanks to this page, you will be able to track down performances at a venue near you, with links to buy tickets and learn more about each production (or event) where available. Support your local JCS, and keep the circle turning! Special thanks to Kim Rogers, Vice President of Amateur Licensing at The Musical Company, for her assistance overall.

(HOUSEKEEPING NOTE: If you do not see your production listed, please feel free to contact us via the link in the Nav.Bar above. However, if your production has already closed, please note that we frequently update the listings; when a show’s over, it comes off our list. Thanks!)

Hi there!

Are you from the continent of Africa and upset not to see your production of JCS listed?

We are, too!

We would love to include any productions of JCS happening in your area, but as of mid-August 2018, the agency that handles its licensing, Dalro, doesn't even have an individual page for JCS on its website, much less a listing of forthcoming productions.

If you are presenting JCS anywhere in Africa and want to be included on this page, please do not hesitate to contact us with all relevant production details, and we'll put it up!

Special Events
Screening Tour / Special Appearances

(This section was developed pretty much specifically for this event, a screening tour of the 1973 film which commenced with its 40th anniversary in 2013 and has continued into the present. Each evening includes a screening of a new 2K DCP print of JCS optimized for listening and viewing pleasure, along with a very special personal meet and greet appearance by members of the original cast, a sing-a-long, and a contest for those who wish to showcase their cosplay skills and emulate the look of the film or the era from whence it came. Talk-backs/Q&A, formerly a feature of this tour, are now [mostly] a thing of the past, but you will get some up-close-and-personal face-time with the cast!

Additionally, special meet-and-greet / autograph signing appearances -- not specifically tied to a showing of the movie -- by cast members of the 1973 film began to occur alongside the screening tour in 2013, and have periodically reared their head again during the course of the tour's run. When such events take place, they will be noted here as well.)

No dates have yet been announced for 2019, but more will be reported as info becomes available!
